Thanks to the bright transflective color LCD 2.6 '' and its high-sensitivity GPS receiver with the exclusive quick coupling system of HotFix® satellites, the GPSMAP 78 series represents a new benchmark in the portable device market. Being a highly sensitive device, the GPSMAP 78s locates your position quickly and precisely and ensures optimum reception level in all environmental conditions. The GPSMAP 78s is IPX7 waterproof, has a 1.7 GB internal memory and is equipped with a slot for microSD ™ cards for loading additional maps and MOB (Man Over Board button) dedicated.
The GPSMAP 78s has an electronic compass with tilt compensation in 3-axis, which allows the orientation towards the cardinal points even when you're standing still, without holding it level. The barometric altimeter tracks changes in pressure to pinpoint your precise altitude. In addition, you can use this device to plot barometric pressure over time and observe any change in the weather.
In the device, a worldwide basemap with shaded relief is already installed can be optimized with the addition of mapping and optional features. With an internal memory of 3.5 GB and to the space for microSD, you can use topographic maps, nautical post cards BlueChart® g2, and City Navigator NT street data to create a path by-turn. The GPSMAP 78s also supports BirdsEye ™ functionality for integration of satellite images (by signing the relevant subscription). In addition, this device is compatible with the free Custom Maps, can transform paper maps in electronic downloadable maps on the device.
The GPSMAP 78s you can share your waypoints, tracks, and routes wirelessly with other compatible Garmin devices.
The GPSMAP 78s software is compatible with Garmin Birds Eye ™ service, which allows access by subscription to the wider global database of satellite images, and is designed for the management of raster maps generated from scanning of paper maps by applying Custom Maps.
