CHOOSING THE ELECTRIC BOW MOTOR FOR ANCHOR FUNCTION
In this article our intention is to help you choose the most suitable bow motor to install on your boat.
Bow motors are installed on the front of the boat, it is usually recommended to also provide the installation of the appropriate brackets, which then allow it to be easily removed for storage.
The engines work in traction, for better control of the vessel both when sailing and in automatic anchoring mode.
Ideal for staying still in one spot
"without having to drop anchor" or for trolling, in the latter case important factors are sea conditions and size of the boat, so it is not always possible.
The main factors for choosing the motor are two: thrust and length of the stem.
Below you will find a table that indicates the recommended thrust based on the size.

Particular attention instead to the height of the stem .
Depending on the fixing point of the engine, it is essential to know the height with respect to the "water surface", this is because it is very important to avoid having the engine propeller that is not able to provide the thrust necessary for the electronic anchor function or for small trolling, therefore we must evaluate that there is the possibility that the body of the engine where the propeller is located is
immersed in water for at least 50cm .
Then check the height (H) of the drawing below.
This table indicates the recommended stem height above the bow waterline of the boat.
